Gillingham boss Martin Allen was delighted to see another committed pre-season performance from his team rewarded with a win.
After previous friendly victories over Dagenham, Dartford, Royal Engineers, Ebbsfleet and Dover, the Gills defeated Championship side Charlton on Saturday thanks to Danny Kedwell's first-half goal.
Allen highlighted a few areas where his team can improve but he was pleased to see his side claim another win.
"It's good for our supporters to see us win a game and keep a clean sheet against the local rivals, that's always nice," he told the club's official website. "The supporters saw a few new players playing as well. But the players deserve the credit because they are the ones who put all the hard work into practice.
"We tried to play a bit of football but they played a diamond system in midfield, which made it difficult for us to pass it through midfield. That is something we have to look at. If opposition do that how do we break that down?
"But overall it was a really good team performance. The lads who came off the bench all played well as well. It was a good all-round effort from everyone."
