Torquay v Scunthorpe preview

Scunthorpe will be without Gary McSheffrey for their game at Torquay after the winger was ruled out for the rest of the season.

McSheffrey tore a hamstring in last weekend’s goalless draw against Wycombe and is unlikely to feature again during the run-in.

Midfielder Sean McAllister is nursing a rib injury sustained last Saturday and is doubtful, but defender Marcus Williams is expected to overcome a dead-leg sustained in the same match.

Striker Deon Burton has returned to training following a long-term calf injury and has a chance of returning to the substitutes’ bench as the Iron bid to extend their club-record unbeaten run to 25 matches.

Torquay look set to hand a home debut to Tottenham loanee Shaquile Coulthirst when they host Scunthorpe.

The striker arrived at Plainmoor last week and pulled on a Gulls shirt for the first time as a second-half substitute in their 1-0 loss at Southend and will now hope to be in contention to start against the Iron.

Chris Hargreaves also added Bournemouth youngster Baily Cargill to his squad before the loan window shut and he is hoping to overcome a hamstring strain to feature while Shaun Cooper, another new signing who is yet to make his Torquay bow, expects to return to training ahead of kick-off after an ankle injury.

Winger Shamir Goodwin serves the final match of his three-game ban but Joss Labadie remains suspended and will not play again this season.
