The 26-year-old winger, who will stay at Victoria Park until January, has been without a Football League club since he left Scunthorpe following a short-term deal earlier this season and will go straight into the squad to play Newport on Saturday.

Featherstone made 29 appearances for Walsall last season but was released and failed to make a first-team appearance in a short stay at Glanford Park, since going on to play for non-league Harrogate Town.

He said: “It’s been a really difficult summer, but I’m just glad to be in the Football League to be honest.

“I turned down a couple of League Two clubs right at the end of last season as I didn’t want to drop down a level.

“After I left Scunthorpe, I went to get some games at Harrogate while I waited to get back into the league and (boss) Simon Weaver was great for me.

“I’m really pleased to be here, it’s a great bunch of lads, and we’re only thinking about getting a positive result on Saturday and progressing back up the table.”

Pools sit bottom of the Football League with just three wins from 15 games and Murray’s first game in charge last weekend ended in defeat at Cambridge.
