Shay McCartan is pushing for inclusion in Accrington’s starting line-up against Burton.

The 20-year-old moved to the top of Stanley’s goalscoring charts by coming off the bench to rescue a point in Friday’s 1-1 draw with Cheltenham.

Boss John Coleman may be forced into a defensive reshuffle as veteran defender Nicky Hunt limped off in the first half, while fellow full-back Adam Buxton (hamstring) is also out injured again.

Stanley are currently on a three-match unbeaten run and can emulate this season’s best streak of four contests without defeat if they pick up at least a point against the league leaders.

Nasser El Khayati’s performance at the weekend has given Burton boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink food for thought.

The Dutch forward impressed as a second-half substitute against Dagenham on Saturday and capped his display with a goal in the 3-1 win in east London, putting pressure on the places of Adam McGurk and Stuart Beavon ahead of Tuesday night’s trip.

Kelvin Maynard has regained fitness after a hip injury and the defender could return to the squad, although midfielder Matty Palmer may not yet be ready.

A hamstring problem continues to prevent Dutch defender Stefan Maletic, signed at the beginning of January, from making his Burton bow.

Depleted Accrington could again be without as many as four of their more senior players this weekend.

Striker Danny Webber completes his three-match suspension, full-back Nicky Hunt and goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin (both knee) are not expected to be back in action for at least another month while defender Laurence Wilson is also very doubtful with a groin strain.

On-loan stopper Marcus Bettinelli arrived from Fulham on Wednesday and made his debut in the 2-0 Capital One Cup defeat against Cardiff, a game which also featured 16-year-old Connor Mahoney and both may be involved again.

Prior to the Bluebirds clash, manager James Beattie suggested a lack of numbers for the side bottom of League Two could force him to play himself yet he resisted the urge to do so on Wednesday.

Albion boss Gary Rowett could make changes to his side following their midweek exploits in the Capital One Cup.

The Brewers took Premier League club Fulham all the way to penalties in their second-round tie on Tuesday night, so there might be a few drained legs among Rowett’s ranks.

Adam McGurk is likely to return after a sore knee while fellow striker Michael Symes, whose header put Burton 2-1 in front in extra time against the Cottagers, and midfielder Jimmy Phillips could come into contention for starting roles after impressing from the bench in midweek.

Midfielder Alex McDonald (calf) is out, though, while striker Billy Kee (thigh) and defender Zander Diamond (foot) are both close to their comebacks.

Accrington boss John Coleman could hand a debut to new signing Padraig Amond for the home clash with Burton.

Stanley have signed the Irish striker on loan from Portuguese outfit Pacos de Ferreira and are hoping to receive international clearance in time for him to face the Brewers.

However, Kern Miller remains sidelined with a facial injury, fellow defender Leam Richardson is doubtful with a thigh strain and summer signing Danny Coid is nursing a hamstring complaint.

Coid is hoping to be passed fit to play as Coleman’s men seek to bounce back from last weekend’s 4-1 thumping at Port Vale, where the hosts led 4-0 at the break.

“We weren’t good enough and we told them at half-time but I don’t think we were good enough in the second half either,” said Coleman.

Meanwhile Paul Peschisolido could name an unchanged team for Burton.

The Canadian saw his side win for the first time this season at Southend last weekend with a performance that left him ‘proud’ of his players.

Peschisolido might try to bolster his squad ahead of the trip to Lancashire.

The long-term injuries to Tom Parkes (broken ankle) and Nathan Stanton (knee) combined with Paul Boertien and Darren Moore being short of fitness could see the Albion boss attempt to sign a defender.

Peschisolido is also concerned that Andy Corbett is the only recognised right-back on the books at the Pirelli Stadium.

The injuries to Greg Pearson (infected toe) and summer signing Adi Yussuf (hamstring) have also left the Brewers without cover for first-choice strikers Calvin Zola and Justin Richards.

Accrington manager John Coleman will have Rory Boulding available for the visit of Burton.

The 22-year-old has missed the last three games through suspension after being sent off in a reserve-team clash earlier this month.

Midfielder Charlie Barnett, who has missed the last two games with an ankle injury, could be available but will undergo a late check before Coleman names his squad.

Full-back Leam Richardson remains doubtful with the groin problem that has seen him miss the last six league games.

On-loan Burnley defender Kevin Long will retain his place in the squad and will be hoping for some match action following his return to the squad as an unused substitute against Gillingham on Saturday.

Paul Boertien is an injury concern for Burton ahead of the trip to Accrington.

Boertien was forced off at half-time during the goalless draw at Stockport on Saturday due to a groin problem.

The same injury has seen fellow defender Nathan Stanton miss the last two matches and he remains a doubt.

Boss Paul Peschisolido has to decide whether to risk on-loan striker Calvin Zola, who has been out for five games because of a hamstring strain.

“Calvin wants to play but we have to be very careful with a soft tissue injury,” said the Canadian. “If we bring him back too soon, it will tear again and he will be back to square one. We want to make sure he is 100 per cent right before he plays again.”

Meanwhile, Albion winger Lewis Young has joined Blue Square Bet Premier side Forest Green Rovers on loan until the end of the season.
