The 26-year-old, who joined the Pools on a short-term contract in October from non league side Harrogate Town, has been handed a fresh deal by manager Ronnie Moore.

Featherstone made 27 appearances last season as the club pulled off a remarkable escape from relegation.

Featherstone, 26, arrived at the club in November on a short-term deal and has made 11 appearances.

“It’s good to get things sorted and be able to fully focus on my football now,” Featherstone told the club’s official website.

“Obviously I want to be playing – every player does – but at the end of the day it’s about the team and it’s about getting the results to keep our league status.

“The last three or four games have seen good performances and we could probably have picked up more points than we have so we just have to keep going.

“The manager has been honest with me and kept me in the loop; he’s told me that I need to keep my head down, keep working hard and my chance will come.

“I will be ready when that time comes and do everything I can to help the team.”

The 26-year-old, signed by former boss Paul Murray, saw his initial short-term deal run out at the end of December but new manager Ronnie Moore has given him a chance to prove himself, offering a contract until the end of January.

“Nicky has signed for another month,” Moore told the Hartlepool Mail.

“We will have a look at him as back-up for the squad.

“He gets in there and has a go and he will help.

“But we still need a couple more in and hopefully they will be in by the time we play Cheltenham.”

The former Hull and Walsall man has played 11 times for Pools and started their 1-0 defeat at Wycombe on Saturday.
