Bird to nest with Hartlepool

The 27-year-old, who joined the U’s from Portsmouth in September after a successful loan spell last term, has scored four times in 21 games for Richard Money’s men this season and has been allowed to leave the Abbey Stadium following the arrival of Matt Harrold earlier this term.

The capture of Bird ends Pools boss Ronnie Moore’s search for a striker to replace Rakish Bingham, who returned to parent club Mansfield earlier this month.

Bird could be in line to make his debut in Saturday’s League Two clash with AFC Wimbledon.
