The 20-year-old bagged his first two goals for the club in Saturday’s vital 4-1 win at Mansfield which breathed fresh life into the Minstermen’s fight for Football League survival.

The brace came in his fourth appearance since joining on loan from Premier League Tottenham following a spell at League Two rivals Southend earlier this season.

Wilcox had been chasing the striker long before he finally got his man and he is delighted his hard work is bearing fruit.

“That’s what he can do, I have been after him a long time and I have finally got him to York City which I am delighted to do,” Wilcox said.

“He is a terrific lad, he wants to learn and improve.

“Even though he is a Tottenham Hotspur player there is no edge about him, he has come with the right approach.

“It tells you everything about him that he has come to York City in a League Two relegation battle.

“It would have been easier for him to stay at Tottenham playing in the Under-21s and seen the season out but he showed he is up for the fight.”
