Kevin Ellison and Andy Fleming have penned new one-year contracts with the Shrimps while the League Two club are also in negotiations with goalkeeper Andreas Arestidou and Chris Doyle in the hope of keeping them around.

Hughes, a 28-year-old defender who made 42 appearances last season, departs along with Andy Wright, Ryan Williams, Jack Sampson, Declan Watson, Will Bell and Marcus Marshall.

“This is always a tough time of the year because you have to make some very difficult decisions and you end up saying goodbye to some players that have done a tremendous job for the club over a couple of seasons,” Shrimps boss Jim Bentley told the club’s official website.

“Everyone that is on that list has contributed to what this team has achieved over the last couple of years. We thank them all for their dedication and valuable contribution and everyone at the club really does wish them well for the future.”

On Ellison and Fleming, Bentley added: “Kev had another great season for us and is still an inspiration on and off the pitch while Andy has been excellent again and is still one who can get better and better in that midfield role.”
