Leeds caretaker boss Neil Redfearn is hoping to strengthen his case for the job on a permanent basis as Ken Bates considers his options.

Academy coach Redfearn, 46, steered Leeds to a 3-0 win at Bristol City on Saturday following the sacking of Simon Grayson and his backroom staff on Wednesday and appears set to remain in charge when they travel to Brighton next weekend.

"I'm employed by the club and that won't change," Redfearn told the club's official website. "I'm directed to by the people above and the powers that be will decide on whoever the next manager is.

"What I want to do is make sure I do as well as I can while I'm here and in charge. If it is me great, if it isn't I will support whoever comes in."

Leeds announced on Friday they had been "inundated with credible approaches for the vacant managerial position" and Bates will sift through them this week, but Redfearn will not be distracted.

The former Scarborough and Northwich Victoria manager added: "It's important they are up for every game and that they are organised and in good condition. That's what we did on Saturday and that's what we'll focus on this week for the Brighton game and so on until I'm told otherwise."
