Neil Warnock will begin his search for "two or three" new players this week in his bid to get Leeds' promotion challenge back on track.
Warnock, 63, was confirmed as the club's new manager on Saturday following the recent sacking of Simon Grayson - and the former Sheffield United and QPR boss has already identified areas that need strengthening.
"The chairman was supportive when I spoke to him. He knows I feel we need two or three players if we can get the right ones to supplement what we've already got," Warnock told the club's official website. "Gwyn Williams will be trying as well to let one or two players go out, as will my staff.
"Ideally I'd love to get somebody in before the weekend. I do feel there are areas we have to improve if we're not to write this season off. I don't want to write this season off, not just yet - even though the bookies aren't giving us much opportunity.
"One of the reasons for coming was because there's an opportunity there. The size of the club is geared for that situation. It's fair to say that the squad has to improve, but there are a lot of players here so they have to prove it at the same time. The challenge is there."
Warnock, meanwhile, expects a swift improvement in his side after acknowledging time is not on his side if he wants to win another promotion.
Warnock has steered seven clubs to promotion during a 32-year managerial career - Notts County, Sheffield United and QPR all to the top flight - and has signed a contract at Elland Road until the end of next season in a bid to make Leeds his eighth.
"Usually when you come in as a manager, you say it's going to take you two or three years to build the club," Warnock told the club's official website. "I haven't got two or three years so I don't want that.
"I want to try and win every game and see it where it takes us. That's what I said to the players on Saturday: 'The situation is we have to beat Doncaster Rovers, there's nothing else about it."'
Warnock added: "We move on now, we have a week's training and I expect us to be a little bit better next weekend. We have to grab the opportunity now and try to get as many points as we can. I expect them to be better at Portsmouth and a lot better against Southampton."
