Rotherham have allowed winger Marcus Marshall to join League Two rivals Macclesfield on a one-month emergency loan.

Marshall, 22, has been on the periphery of the Millers first team this season and has only made three appearances since the end of a November, partly due to an ankle injury.

Manager Andy Scott feels the switch is a good opportunity for Marshall to gain some match fitness and prove he has a long-term future with the South Yorkshire side.

"He hasn't taken the chances he has had with us at the moment," Scott told the club's official website. "This is a good opportunity for him to get some games elsewhere and for him to learn what is required to get into our first team.

"With Kieran (Cadogan) coming in this will obviously restrict his chances here so it was a good deal for everybody."

Marshall started his career at Blackburn before switching to the Don Valley Stadium in the summer of 2010 following a successful loan spell.
