TEAMtalk Editor Simon Wilkes has a crack at picking Roy Hodgson's first England team - and invites you, our readers, to do the same.

We've seen Roy Hodgson's squad for Euro 2012 - and on Saturday night we'll get an insight into his thinking for team selection and formation when England take on Norway at the Ullevaal Stadium.

Chelsea heroes Ashley Cole, Gary Cahill and Frank Lampard are unavailable, while John Terry and Wayne Rooney are also out of the first-team picture.

With that mind, I thought I'd have a stab at trying to nail Hodgson's starting XI - then invite you, our readers, to do the same.

We know from Hodgson's time at The Hawthorns that he favoured a 4-2-3-1 formation, but you can choose whatever system you wish.

Simon Wilkes' England XI v Norway: Hart; P Jones, Jagielka, Lescott, Baines; Parker, Barry; Walcott, Gerrard (c), A Young; Carroll.

Defence: With much of his first-choice defence unavailable, I'm going for a friends reunited central defensive partnership of Everton's Phil Jagielka and his former Toffees team-mate Joleon Lescott, with Leighton Baines filling Cole's left-back boots.

Phil Jones starts in the right-back role ahead of Martin Kelly, with Glen Johnson struggling for fitness.

Defensive midfielders: Scott Parker is carrying an Achilles injury but has been training with the Three Lions so gets the nod, with James Milner on standby if he's not quite match-fit. Gareth Barry plays in the left-sided midfield anchor role.

Attacking midfielders: Hodgson liked to play three attack-minded midfielders behind a lone frontman at Albion, so Theo Walcott, skipper Steven Gerrard and United wideman Ashley Young get the gig to supply the ammunition in the attacking third.

Attack: We know Hodgson loves a big man up top, so Andy Carroll is given the chance to continue his strong end-of-season form for Liverpool.
