CECH 8.would have given him a 9 but he’s never saved a penalty for us.
BELLERIN 7.to blame for both goals.no need to do that for the penalty
but why oh why didn’t he tack alonso all the way.
CHAMBERS 3.and thats being generous.not good enough.
MUSTAFI 6.had a tough time with chambers and holding.even the great tony
adams would have struggled with them two clowns.
HOLDING 3.being generous again.struggles with balls in and behind him.
XHAKA 5.kept it nice and simple but no effect on big games.
NILES 8.5.what a talent.didn’t look out of place one bit.
SANCHEZ 8.good game but not the effect in previous seasons for me.
WILSHERE 8.5.great goal.kept the ball well and is getting better.
OZIL 9.5.for 60/70min was the best player on the pitch.shame he tired
    that last 20.fantastic game.
LACAZETTE 9.fantastic game.holds the ball up really well but i blame
the rest of the team for not creating enough for him.

Steve, Good reveiw. Only ones i would change would be Bellerin (7.5) i dont blame him for alonso goal.
Mustafi was left ball watchin as usual and should have been across. Same could have been said for holding.
Holding (7) personally thought he had a good solid game. Your right that he does struggle with balls in behind but out of the 3 defenders he was the calmest out of them.
Mustafi (3) this guy cant defend, he is lucky he has a turn of pace. Reckless and never in position and for a senior defender that night offered no support to Chambers and Holding.
Xhaka (3) pointless player, he slows everything down and cannot pass, tackle or run.
    Maitland Niles (9)
    Sanchez (8)
    Ozil (10)
    Lacazette (9)
    Wilshere (8)
    Cech (10)

    Ok three things.

1)If there is any thread that proves how underrated and overcriticised Xhaka really is then it’s this one.I’m actually going to back my argument with substance rather than just give out my opinion.
Here are a few numbers between a player who some people thought had a fantastic game and someone who people thought had a poor game agains chelsea.

Wilshere: 67 passes 85% comp. 1 shot on target, 2 successful dribbles, 6 duels won, 0 clearances, 0 interceptions.

Xhaka: 79 passes 88.6% comp., 1 key pass, 1 successful dribble, 6 duels won, 2 clearances, 1 interception.

So wait, just because wilshere scores a goal he stood out,and xhaka made a few misplaced passes people are ready to pounce on those mistakes.I’m not surprised by that, that has been the story of xhaka so far this season, where people ignore just about everything of his just because he’s made mistakes.
Also,I would like to remind you that xhaka has completed the second most passes in the PL this season.Behind Only after fernandinho, ahead of de bruyne silva and everyone else. The guy never ever hides.People pounce at his mistakes,But I applaud the fact that he is ready to try “difficult passes” at the risk of him losing the ball and getting lambasted for that.He is as brave a player in our squad.

2)Mustafi has been our best defender this season, and he was certainly someone who saved the backs of holding and chambers agains chelsea or else we would have conceded even more goals apart from the chances chelsea missed. He’s imposing as well,a true leader. He was rated the highest defender by whoscored amongst both the teams.Yet,astoundingly people criticise him.Scapegoat

3)I have absolutely no idea why the hell lacazette has been given a 9 rating. His movement was good and hold up play as well, but that’s about that.He missed 2 easy chances that a 50m striker should be putting away.Only for his overall game I’m kind enough to even give a 7.I love the trio of Laca, ozil and sanchez but lacazette isn’t hungry enough. He has the potential. He has the attributes but it will never be unlocked under this old crossiant.6 PL games without a goal, and not one hint of frustation I saw from him which shows his “level of expectation”.

    Nuff said.

What xhaka does in 90 minutes for a team most players we have can do in 20 mins. He gave the ball away 3 times in dangerous areas. And this is his problem he loses the ball when he shouldnt, he doesnt offer any influence to games, he bang average and huge waste of money. Of course he gets picked on buts thats his own fault, he keeps making the same mistakes week after week and not learning from them. You hate Wenger for for the same faults.

Mustafi our best defender, you are on drugs if you genuinely think that. Also being the ‘best’ defender at Arsenal means absolutely nothing.

Have you ever even played football before? actually asking yank that is like saying xhaka is of any quality – farcical

I’m not going to argue anymore on xhaka with you or anyone else.I’ve made perfectly valid points backing him.Yeah, let’s just ignore him making the second most number of passes in the PL with seriously talented players in the PL.This,on top of the mistakes. He seriously needs a change in system and a manager to make people see how good he really is.

Mustafi? You gave him a 3.For what?Statistically he was the best defender on the pitch amongst both the teams.Let’s just ignore that as well.Holding- 7?Hahahaha.
    I’ve given up now.

Anyone who uses stats to justify opinions shows how limited in understanding they must be. We had a number of posters on the old TT site who used to quote the number of completed passes that Denilson made and indicate that showed he was one of the best midfielders around. Anyone who watched the actual games could witness that all his passes went sideways or backwards and were at most three metres in length. In addition, he couldn’t run and was famously outpaced by a ref in one game. This was the player, along with Diaby, that Wenger didn’t want to “ruin”, so justifying not bidding for Yaya Toure. Xhaka, the midfield liability, alongside Mustafi, who lacks nous and courage, for a combined £70m shows that Wenger should not be trusted with making any more purchases.

Stats never tell the full story,I admit that.Otherwise Arsenal probably deserve to win the PL atleast once because we take useless shots at the goalkeeper and make up those stats.

Denilson use to make sideways and backwards passes.I knew someone would come on here and mention that.Except what people fail to see about xhaka is that his passes are so forward thinking and brave. He dosen’t try easy passes back to the defender,so that he passes it back to the keeper.Xhaka always tries the difficult ones, which is why he’s given the ball away so many times. other players who always try difficult passes are cazorla and sanchez and wilshere.I can only say that xhaka is a talented player who’s not being used properly. If you play two midfielders, you have to make sure that xhaka’s partner has to be someone who can cover for him, someone like kante.Otherwise you switch to 3 in the midfield which wenger is against for some odd reason and we are not getting the results with the current system anyways.

One thing I will agree on,Is that the old crossiant cannot be trusted with making anymore purchases.Talk about him wanting to waste 90m on lemar.Might be a good player but certainly hasn’t done or shown enough to warrant that fee.We need a next manager asap who has to plan the transfers.

The point is that Xhaka is not suited to the Premiership and certainly not as a defensive midfielder- how many times do we see games when he is in front of either Ramsey, or now Wilshere?! Wenger admitted, soon after buying him that, he “does not know how to tackle!” He needs time on the ball, cannot be pressed, or he does something stupid, cannot track back, is unable to turn quickly, loses his marker and concentration easily and is as mobile as a Jan Molby with a hangover ( if people remember Liverpool player). He might have had time and space in Germany and in international football for the Swiss, but many of our problems lie with our defence, which is not coached and our midfield which offers no protection. Xhaka has to be moved on, for the good of this team moving forward.

Xhaka is the poorest signing in the last 10 years at Arsenal and that says something. He cost £34m and he cant run, cant tackle, can only make simple passes when under no pressure, he isnt creative and he cant defend, he gives away fouls and he losses possession in dangerous areas. He is a liability and I doubt we will get more than a fraction of what we paid for him. He’s another write off.
