Sheffield Utd v Yeovil preview

Sheffield United defender Matt Lowton remains sidelined for the home clash.

Right-back Lowton missed the weekend’s FA Cup win over Salisbury and the league defeat at Carlisle due to a hamstring injury sustained against Hartlepool on New Year’s Day.

Johnny Ertl stepped in to make his first start of the season on Saturday and could continue, although Marcus Williams returned as an unused substitute against Salisbury after signing his permanent deal with the Blades and will provide boss Danny Wilson with an extra option.

Nick Montgomery is hoping to return to the side after he too was an unused substitute at the weekend, while fellow midfielder Stephen Quinn could return to contention after being left out of the matchday squad altogether.

Striker Richard Cresswell is pushing for a recall to the starting XI and James Beattie, also a second-half substitute on Saturday, is in contention for his first start since returning to Bramall Lane in November.

Gary Johnson will resume the managerial reins as Yeovil travel to Sheffield United.

Johnson, who guided the Glovers to two promotions during his previous spell as boss, was re-appointed on Monday, with Terry Skiverton standing aside and becoming assistant manager.

Johnson’s second coming with Yeovil will be boosted by the return of midfielders Paul Wotton and Ed Upson at the high-flying Blades.

The duo had been suspended for the 1-1 draw with local rivals Exeter on January 2 but have now served their bans and are available for selection.

Winger Gavin Massey extended his loan spell from Watford last week and should start for the Glovers, but Kerrea Gilbert, Flavien Belson, Abdulai Bell-Baggie and Alan O’Brien have left the club after Yeovil chose not to renew their respective deals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Dominic Blizzard is set to miss out through a groin injury.
