Luke Varney does not have permission to face Derby on Saturday so Leon Clarke should start in the Sheffield Wednesday attack at Hillsborough.

Varney has scored seven goals for the Owls this season since arriving on loan from Derby in August but he cannot face his parent club.

Clarke is likely to replace him alongside Marcus Tudgay up front as Jermaine Johnson is out with a hamstring injury.

Alan Irvine, who has no new injury or suspension problems, could also recall winger Etienne Esajas to the squad after the Dutch winger's brace for the reserves in midweek.

Michael Gray, Tom Soares and Frank Simek - all named among the substitutes in midweek - are hoping for bigger roles as the Owls look to extend their unbeaten run to three league matches.
