Jack Wilshere: Key man for England

Jack Wilshere: Key man for England

Jack Wilshere is set to start for England for the first time since June 2011 when Brazil visit Wembley on Wednesday.

The Arsenal midfielder's last start for his country was against Switzerland in a Euro 2012 qualifier, but he is expected to line up alongside captain Steven Gerrard in the friendly international.

Left-back Ashley Cole will win his 100th cap, with manager Roy Hodgson favouring an experienced line-up.

Hodgson admitted at his press conference on Tuesday that Wilshere's Arsenal team-mate Theo Walcott was an option to play up front, due to injuries to strike duo Jermain Defoe and Daniel Sturridge.

Michael Carrick was another withdrawal following the weekend's Premier League action.

Brazil's Chelsea defender David Luiz will have a test on his calf injury before Luiz Felipe Scolari decides whether he plays.

The other Premier League players in the Selecao squad are goalkeeper Julio Cesar (QPR) and midfielders Ramires and Oscar (both Chelsea), joining the likes of superstar names Neymar, Hulk and Ronaldinho.

England squad:

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland, Joe Hart.

Defenders: Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Phil Jagielka, Glen Johnson, Joleon Lescott, Chris Smalling, Kyle Walker.

Midfielders: Tom Cleverley, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Leon Osman, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere.

Strikers: Wayne Rooney, Daniel Welbeck.
