Crawley Town v Carlisle preview

Gwion Edwards will be available for Crawley against Carlisle after extending his loan spell from Swansea for the final two games of the season.

Edwards has impressed during his four appearances for Town, scoring two goals, but fellow winger Jeffrey Monakana’s loan has not been as successful and he has returned to parent club Brighton.

Midfielder Andy Drury needs a fitness test after missing the last two matches while striker Billy Clarke remains sidelined with a broken hand.

Full-back Paul Connolly completes his five-match ban for confronting a Brentford fan earlier this month, meaning he can play in the final match against Bristol City on Saturday.

Carlisle will be without Gary Madine while Nacho Novo is also a doubt for the Cumbrians’ must-win trip to Crawley.

Madine is unavailable because of curfew restrictions associated with his early prison release and strike partner Novo is being monitored after he limped off with a hamstring injury just 12 minutes into the home defeat to Oldham on Saturday.

Defenders Sean O’Hanlon (groin) and Reece Brown (groin) and midfielders Liam Noble (calf) and James Berrett (groin) all played against the Latics despite not being 100 per cent, and may have to do so again with midfielder Paul Thirlwell (Achilles), striker Lee Miller (groin) and defender Courtney Meppen-Walter (groin) still struggling.

Carlisle head to West Sussex four points from safety and face League One champions Wolves at Molineux in their final game of the season at the weekend.

Mark Connolly returns to the Crawley squad.

The defender missed Saturday’s 2-0 win at Bury through suspension after he was sent off against Brentford last week.

His return will give boss Richie Barker a selection dilemma after former Gillingham centre-half Connor Essam impressed on his full debut in Connolly’s absence.

Striker Billy Clarke needs a late fitness check after missing out at the weekend with a hamstring problem.

However, Barker does not have to rush his top scorer back after Jamie Proctor scored both goals against Bury, his first for the club.

Defender Kyle McFadzean is back in training but still not match fit following four months on the sidelines due to a virus.

Carlisle will be without suspended striker Lee Miller.

Miller was shown a straight red card in the weekend defeat at Notts County for appearing to headbutt Dean Leacock in the closing stages and he will miss the next three matches.

Danny Cadamarteri is hoping to make his first start since early December and fellow forward Mark Beck provides manager Greg Abbott with an alternative option to partner Rory Loy in Miller’s absence.

Winger Matty Robson could return after missing the last three games with a groin injury, while teenager Dave Symington and Andy Welsh are also pushing for recalls.

Abbott has no other new injury or suspension problems, but is without Chris Chantler (ankle), sidelined for the rest of the season, as his side chase their first win in six league matches.
