Preston v Notts C preview

Neither Kyel Reid nor Lee Holmes will feature for promotion-chasing Preston in their opening clash against Notts County.

Reid was signed from League One rivals Bradford over the summer, yet the winger will have to wait a while for his Lilywhites debut after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury back in January.

And North End boss Simon Grayson will be missing two wide men as Holmes has a chest injury.

Other than that, though, Grayson has a full squad of players to choose from with central defender Bailey Wright, who was called up to the Australia squad for the World Cup, declaring himself fit after coming back to pre-season training later than the others.

Notts County boss Shaun Derry, ahead of his first full season in charge, will be without Jimmy Spencer.

The striker faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury during a pre-season friendly fixture.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll will start between the posts at Deepdale after joining the Magpies on a one-year deal. The 36-year-old has been brought in to replace Bartosz Bialkowski who moved to Ipswich this summer.

Fellow new arrivals Alan Smith, Taylor McKenzie, Hayden Mullins, Liam Noble, Nicky Wroe, Blair Adams, Cieron Keane, Zeli Ismail, Garry Thompson, Jake Cassidy, Elliott Whitehouse, Gary Jones and Adam Dawson will also hope to be involved.
