John-Joe O’Toole is banned for the visit of York after being sent off during Northampton’s 1-1 draw with Mansfield.

The midfielder was dismissed in the game which had been branded ‘John-Joe O’Toole Day’ by the Cobblers.

Northampton opted not to appeal and he now starts a three-game suspension.

Zander Diamond (hamstring) is struggling, Ian Morris (knee) is out for the season and Kaid Mohamed remains sidelined with a broken foot.

Diego De Girolamo is set to feature for York after rejoining from Sheffield United on a third loan spell.

The 19-year-old forward, who scored four goals in eight appearances for the Minstermen earlier this season, is out of contract in the summer, with York facing competition for his signature from Italian giants Juventus and Premier League club Sunderland.

Wes Fletcher’s match-winning double against Tranmere last week is likely to mean De Girolamo will have to settle for a place on the bench.

Fellow striker Jake Hyde serves the second game of his three-match ban, while midfielder Luke Summerfield remains sidelined with a thigh injury.

Northampton will be without Danny Emerton for the visit of York as they look to record back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

The midfielder suffered a badly-broken nose in last weekend’s 2-1 success at Newport and will be forced to watch from the stands against the Minstermen.

Left-back Joe Widdowson missed out altogether against County due to a shoulder problem and he continues to be ruled out.

Mathias Doumbe, Ian Morris, Clive Platt, Kelvin Langmead, Lewis Hornby and Alex Nicholls all remain sidelined due to injury.

York’s new signing Russell Penn is expected to make his debut at Northampton.

Midfielder Penn, who arrived on a permanent deal from Cheltenham this week, is likely to go straight into the starting line-up in place of Tom Platt or Lewis Montrose.

Striker Ryan Jarvis is hoping to overcome a thigh strain in time after missing last week’s home win against Dagenham, although Ryan Bowman may keep his place alongside Wes Fletcher after scoring his fifth goal of the season.

Boss Nigel Worthington has no new injury or suspension problems as his side chase a third straight win for the first time this season.

Northampton will be without Ishmel Demontagnac.

Demontagnac was forced off with a hamstring injury during the first half of the defeat at Bradford on Tuesday night.

The winger joins captain Kelvin Langmead (knee) on the sidelines, but striker Clive Platt will undergo a fitness test on his back problem on Friday.

“Ishmel is making really good progress and he may still play a part this season,” said Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd ahead of Saturday’s fixture. “When it’s a hamstring you have to be careful, but he may be back sooner than we first thought.

“I do have options to replace Ishmel, which is good, and we can play in a variety of different ways and with a variety of different systems.

“It may be an opportunity for Jake Robinson or I could bring Luke Guttridge or Lewis Hornby back into the team just to firm it up a little bit to make sure that we get the result that we need.”

On Platt, Boothroyd added: “We really are taking it day to day with Clive because he is such a huge player for us in many different ways and to have him on the pitch or available to be on the pitch is great.

“He was touch and go for the game at Bradford but the pitch there was very hard and I wasn’t sure it was the right type of pitch for him.

“He’s had another week of treatment and rehab now so fingers crossed if he comes through the fitness test okay he will be available for Saturday.”

York will be without on-loan midfielder Josh Carson, while defender David McGurk is a major injury doubt.

Carson has returned to parent club Ipswich after breaking a bone in his foot in last week’s home draw with Accrington.

Centre-half McGurk sustained a calf injury and was withdrawn at half-time last week and may miss out on Saturday with a view to being fit for the last two games of the season.

Manager Nigel Worthington must decide whether to hand Tom Allan his first senior start for the club in McGurk’s absence or recall Chris Doig, who has not played since sustaining an ankle injury on Boxing Day.

Striker Michael Coulson is pushing for his first start since October following his return from a long-term knee injury. He has stepped off the bench in the last three games.

Fellow forward Richard Cresswell is expected to play his last game for York before returning to parent club Sheffield United.
