Robbie Weir returns to the reckoning for Burton as they prepare to host title rivals Wycombe.

Weir is available again after serving a three-match suspension and there is a good chance the midfielder could go straight back into the starting line-up.

Brewers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is likely to keep any changes to a minimum but the likes of George Taft, Stuart Beavon and Abdenasser El Khayati are also options for the Dutchman, who has seen his side’s lead at the top of the table trimmed to just one point following successive 1-1 draws.

Stefan Maletic, Florent Cuvelier and Mickael Antoine-Curier will probably not be ready to return from their hamstring problems.

Wycombe have suffered a double blow with the news two players could miss the rest of the season.

Boss Gareth Ainsworth revealed that right-back Sido Jombati (ankle) and Max Kretzschmar (thigh) may not feature again in the Chairboys’ promotion push, meaning Ainsworth will have to deal with a threadbare squad for the run-in.

And he will hope Matt McClure is passed fit after the striker missed the home defeat to Oxford with a calf strain. If he fails a fitness test then Paul Hayes and Fred Onyedinma may lead the line once more.

The third-placed Blues could make changes in a bid to get back to winning ways with Peter Murphy and goalscorer Aaron Holloway both hoping to be given the nod.

Burton will check on Marcus Holness ahead of Wycombe’s visit to the Pirelli Stadium.

Holness limped off during the 1-0 defeat at Scunthorpe on Saturday and he will be assessed. With fellow centre-half Ian Sharps (calf) also out recently, Albion boss Gary Rowett may explore the possibility of signing another defender ahead of Thursday’s loan deadline.

Callum McFadzean was on the bench at Scunthorpe but did not feature. The winger, signed on loan from Sheffield United last week, will hope to make his debut on Tuesday night.

The likes of Dominic Knowles, Adam McGurk, Jack Dyer and David Gray are also options for Rowett.

Wycombe will wait on the fitness of strikers Steven Craig and Matt McClure ahead of their trip to Burton.

The pair picked up hamstring injuries in the 1-1 draw with Cheltenham last Tuesday which ruled them both out of Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Rochdale, leaving boss Gareth Ainsworth stretched in the striking department.

The experienced Matt Bloomfield won his fitness battle after coming off with a knee injury against Cheltenham and looks set to start again while Ainsworth could also call on the likes of Sam Togwell and Matt Spring.

Saturday’s loss leaves the Blues, who will be without Paris Cowan-Hall, Gary Doherty, Tommy Fletcher and Charles Dunne once more, just three points clear of the League Two relegation zone.

Robbie Weir will return from suspension for the Brewers.

Weir has been sorely missed during his enforced two-match absence, with the Brewers drawing 3-3 at struggling Accrington before being hammered 7-1 by fellow automatic promotion contenders Port Vale.

The midfielder is likely to be restored to the starting line-up by manager Gary Rowett as he looks for his team to return to winning ways following four games without a victory.

With Michael Symes continuing to play despite a groin niggle, Rowett will be hoping for positive news on fellow strikers Calvin Zola and Billy Kee.

Zola is still struggling with a long-standing hamstring and hip problem and has sat out the last three matches, while Kee missed Friday night’s thrashing at Vale Park with a hamstring injury sustained at Accrington.

Wycombe are without the suspended Stuart Lewis.

The midfielder picked up a 10th booking of the campaign at the weekend as Wanderers beat Oxford to record back-to-back one-goal away victories.

Winning a third against promotion-chasing Burton will be a tall order, but Gareth Ainsworth is expected to have Matt McClure and Dean Morgan available following hamstring injuries.

McClure has been absent since the 1-0 defeat to Accrington on Good Friday while Morgan has not featured since the Chairboys lost at Bradford on March 19.

Wycombe lie in 15th position in the table and need a point to mathematically guarantee their survival, while a third consecutive win would leave them just five points off a play-off place with four games to play.

Burton boss Paul Peschisolido could make sweeping changes for the league visit of Wycombe.

The Canadian rested regulars Darren Moore, Aaron Webster, John McGrath and Shaun Harrad against Rotherham in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Wednesday night and they could all return to the side.

Moore (hamstring) and fellow defender Webster (knee) were nursing slight injuries and they will be assessed.

Adam Legzdins (dislocated finger) was not risked against the Millers and it remains to be seen whether he will replace 47-year-old Kevin Poole in goal.

Another possible change could be in midfield after Adam Bolder played his first 90 minutes in midweek since suffering a dislocated shoulder just over a month ago.

Bolder is still building up his match fitness and two games in the space of four days could be too much for the 29-year-old.

Wycombe boss Gary Waddock is set to revert to his first-choice XI for the trip to Burton.

Waddock made five changes for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy win at Colchester in midweek but will recall veteran winger Gareth Ainsworth among others.

Ainsworth made both goals at Stevenage last weekend and will start as Waddock looks to build on three straight wins.

Defender Dave Winfield has returned from illness and is in contention to start after coming through 90 minutes at Colchester.

Former Leeds midfielder Ian Westlake is available after he returned from an ankle injury, while Jon-Paul Pittman will be out for at least four months after undergoing surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his knee.

On-loan Reading midfielder Scott Davies is hoping to keep his place after scoring in midweek.
