Newport will assess defender Ismail Yakubu ahead of the visit of Dagenham.

The former Barnet centre-back limped out of their midweek defeat at Southend and the Exiles’ medical staff will monitor him in the build-up to kick-off as they look to revive their faltering season.

Kevin Feely could step into the side if Yakubu is not passed fit or Regan Poole could return to the starting line-up.

Boss Jimmy Dack dropped Lee Minshull, Yan Klukowski and Chris Zebroski and they will hope to regain their places should Dack shuffle his pack in a bid to end a run of three successive 2-0 defeats.

Dagenham’s Joss Labadie starts his six-month ban for a second biting offence.

The former West Brom trainee was charged with violent conduct by the FA last month after he was accused of sinking his teeth into the hand of Stevenage defender Ronnie Henry.

He was banned for 10 matches last season after biting Chesterfield’s Ollie Banks while playing for Torquay.

Ayo Obileye remains banned for the Daggers while Liam O’Brien (adductor) and Jon Nouble (knee) will be assessed.

Newport will be boosted by the return of Tom Naylor when they host Dagenham.

The Derby loanee has served his one-match ban for a red card against Morecambe and returns to contention and he could replace Ismail Yakubu who was forced off during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Exeter after a recurrence of his thigh injury.

The Exiles will assess Byron Anthony, who was struggling with a kidney infection last week, ahead of kick-off on Wednesday night along with Andy Sandell who has been suffering from a hamstring injury.

Star striker Aaron O’Connor, yet to kick a ball this season due to a groin injury, is edging closer to a return and has been joining in with Newport’s pre-match warm-ups before games.

Luke Wilkinson will be assessed before Dagenham’s clash with Newport in south Wales.

The defender missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Morecambe due to a knock sustained in the previous fixture with Bristol Rovers, however the problem is not considered overly serious and he could return to the Daggers’ ranks.

Boss Wayne Burnett is once again set to be without influential striker Rhys Murphy (groin) and fellow striker Zavon Hines (knee) with the duo not ready to return in the near future.

Winger Ashley Chambers, recently signed on loan from Cambridge, could continue after making his first start at the weekend.
