Notts County take it to the wire

Goals in each half from Garry Thompson and Liam Noble were enough to seal the points despite Nathan Tyson’s late penalty as the Magpies moved out of the drop zone on goal difference following a late defeat for Crawley.

In a game billed as “must-win” by Notts boss Ricardo Moniz, the hosts flew out of the blocks with Thompson producing a cool finish from Graham Burke’s cross to send Meadow Lane crazy.

Rovers began to probe as the first half wore on and twice went close through long shots from James Coppinger and Kyle Bennett.

But a terrific finish from seven yards by Noble on the hour-mark gave County a valuable cushion.

Doncaster attempted to launch a comeback but the Magpies, who had not won at home since beating Crewe in January, held out despite a late Tyson penalty following Haydn Hollis’s foul on the visiting striker.
