Bury secure stunning comeback
Ricky Holmes fired the visitors into a 10th-minute lead before the Shakers’ Joe Riley was shown a straight red card in the 48th minute.
Yet Kelvin Etuhu claimed a 66th-minute equaliser before Adam El-Abd headed home in the 90th minute, making it seven wins from eight for fourth-placed Bury.
The visitors took an early lead as new loan signing Diego De Girolamo played a perfect through-ball for Holmes to fire into the bottom corner.
Bury replied with Danny Mayor’s shot being deflected wide before Tom Soares’ close-range shot was blocked and he sent the rebound wide.
The Shakers made a double substitution at the break but within three minutes of the restart, Riley was sent off for a late challenge on Tom Newey.
Yet the red card seemed to rally Bury as sub Craig Jones won a corner.
Chris Hussey’s delivery was cleared as far as Etuhu, who fired into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
Soares then fired wide from outside the box while De Girolamo’s long-range strike was turned wide by Pope.
Bury sub Hallam Hope and Cobblers sub James Gray both went close late on, before Hussey’s corner crept through for El-Abd to head home from just a yard out at the far post.
