Spencer goal gives County hope

admin

In what was an edgy start by the hosts, Jamie Proctor forcing Notts goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski into an early save which did little to dampen home anxiety.

But as the half wore on, Shaun Derry’s side began to play without the shackles and almost took the lead through Ronan Murray.

Notts eventually took the lead in the 34th minute when Mark Connolly was penalised for a foul on Jack Grealish and from Alan Sheehan’s free-kick Spencer headed beyond Crawley goalkeeper Paul Jones.

Derry would have demanded more of the same in the second half, but instead it was Crawley who posed the greater threat.

Bialkowski had to save brilliantly from Matt Tubbs, who had benefited from the goalkeeper’s mistake, while Mike Jones’s shot was cleared off the goal-line.

Notts’ goalkeeper then did brilliantly to tip Gary Dicker’s header over the crossbar before saving again from Gwion Williams as the home side clung on for all three points.
