Carlisle off and running

Stanley took the lead through Marcus Carver but Antony Sweeney , Kyle Dempsey and a controversial Billy Paynter goal got caretaker bosses Paul Thirlwell and Tony Caig off to a good start.

Carver opened the scoring in the 21st minute after he beat the offside trap and caught goalkeeper Mark Gillespie off his line, finding the top corner.

However, they only held their lead for three minutes when a cross from Josh Gillies found Sweeney and he fired past Joe Lumley for the equaliser.

The Cumbrians took the lead four minutes after the restart. A Gillies corner was headed back across goal by Sweeney and Dempsey scrambled the ball home from six yards.

Stanley substitute Shay McCartan had an effort cleared off the line after 69 minutes and Carlisle went straight up the other end and scored a controversial third.

Paynter seemed to be well offside when he headed home and everyone waited for the flag to be raised. But the goal was given by referee Lee Collins, much to the bemusement of the Carlisle contingent and the fury of the Stanley bench.
