Leeds' 13-game unbeaten run hit the buffers as Carlisle staged a thrilling second-half revival to earn a convincing 3-1 win.
Carlisle got their act together after the break and goals from Simon Hackney, Joe Garner and Mark Bridge-Wilkinson gave them their third win on the trot.
It was no surprise when Leeds took the lead after 27 minutes. Former Carlisle loan striker Jermaine Beckford slotted the ball coolly past Keiren Westwood from 10 yards for his eighth goal of the season after a home defence had twice failed to clear.
Carlisle were a different team after the break but it took a spectacular strike from Hackney to level the scores in the 60th minute.
Leeds were rocked in the 70th minute when Carlisle took the lead with a close-range header by Garner and the clincher came in added time when Bridge-Wilkinson shot past Ankergren.
