Chesterfield lost out to a Mike Williamson strike as Wycombe maintained their unbeaten league record with a 1-0 win at the Recreation Ground.

Chesterfield barely had time to settle before Tommy Doherty sent in a free-kick after he had been fouled by Darren Currie and Williamson was ideally placed to head home past Chesterfield keeper Trevor Carson in the fourth minute.

But it was Wycombe who went close to adding to their tally shortly after the half-hour, Scott McGleish having his goalbound shot from 12 yards parried by Carson.

Chesterfield were left cursing their luck just moments before the break, though. Jamie Ward's piledriver flew goalwards, but Wycombe keeper Scott Shearer tipped the ball over to preserve his side's slender advantage.

The home side started the second half strongly as they continued to push for an equaliser but chances went begging as the Chairboys held on for the win.
