Tottenham recorded their first Premier League victory in more than a month by defeating lowly Stoke 3-1 following a burst of first-half goals.

Spurs had lost their three previous games against promoted teams this season but Aaron Lennon settled the nerves with his strike in the eighth minute, his second of the campaign.

Lennon combined with Jermain Defoe and raced into the area before burying his finish through the legs of Thomas Sorensen.

Spurs' second goal came on 21 when the ball fizzed between Didier Zokora, Luka Modric and Roman Pavlyuchenko, who played Defoe through to smash in at the near post.

They went 3-0 up on 25 when Michael Dawson headed in from Modric's cross.

Stoke grabbed a goal back on 57 when Matt Etherington floated a ball over Spurs' defence and James Beattie crashed in a half-volley.

But it was just a consolation.
