A goal from John Rooney was not enough for Macclesfield as they lost 2-1 at Dagenham with Matt Ritchie netting the winner for the Daggers.

Rooney, brother of Wayne, gave the Silkmen the lead after 37 minutes, taking advantage of a slip by Mark Arber to drill past Tony Roberts.

Daggers had enjoyed the best of the first half with Magnus Okuonghae having a header saved at point-blank range by Jon Brain.

The home side got their reward after the break as the returning Paul Benson netted with his second touch, lobbing the ball over Brain in the 73rd minute.

They then won it late on as Ritchie volleyed home from the edge of the area in the 84th minute.

Jamie Guy could have added another after he was sent clean through but he saw his shot saved by Brain before bouncing wide of a post.
