Struggling Torquay United produced a much-improved performance but were unable to break down Lincoln City in a 0-0 draw at Sincil Bank.

The Gulls dominated for much of the game but were denied by two goalline clearances.

A first-half header from Chris Robertson beat Lincoln goalkeeper Rob Burch, but Stefan Oakes hacked the ball away from under the crossbar and in the 67th minute Wayne Carlisle was left unmarked to head on target only for Shane Clarke to make a last-ditch clearance.

Torquay had another great chance late on when Tim Sills rose above two home defenders at the far post, but he was unable to direct his header on target.

Lincoln, who included three new signings, struggled at times but almost snatched the lead in the 37th minute. Oakes fired in a 35-yard shot which was heading for the top corner until Torquay goalkeeper Michael Poke made a tremendous save.

Seven minutes before the break young defender Eric Lichaj opened up the Torquay defence with a great cross, but Cian Hughton headed over.
