Sam Sodje kept Charlton in with a chance of automatic promotion from League One as they defeated Carlisle 1-0 at The Valley on Easter Monday.

The centre-back rose to meet Frazer Richardson's in-swinging corner in the 44th minute and thundered in a header from three yards out at the back post.

Richardson's delivery caused problems for Carlisle all match and he found Nicky Forster at the back post with another in-swinging corner, but the striker's header from four yards out was smothered on the line by Adam Collin.

The right-back also nearly found the top right-hand corner with a 40-yard free-kick from the left, but Collin got across to palm the ball over.

Carlisle rarely threatened and could have lost by more as Jonjo Shelvey missed two great chances, hitting a rebound wide in the 76th minute from six yards and shooting straight at two defenders five minutes later.
