A last-minute goal by substitute Graeme Montgomery lifted Dagenham & Redbridge into the play-off places with a vital 2-1 home win over Burton.

There were seconds remaining when the winger pounced to turn in Danny Green's corner after the Brewers defence failed to clear their lines, although the Albion defence was furious with referee Pat Miller for failing to award a free-kick in the build up to the corner.

Earlier in the game, Danny Green's early free-kick was tipped over by Kevin Poole, while the visitors threatened with Shaun Harrad's shot saved by Tony Roberts and Jacques Maghoma putting a close-range header against the inside of the post.

The visitors went ahead after 22 minutes when Russell Penn's neat lay-off was exquisitely placed into the corner of the net by Harrad for his 19th goal of the season. Daggers had their chances to draw level in the opening period, none better than when Paul Benson sent a tame header straight at Poole.

The home side got off to the best start in the second half when Romain Vincelot smashed home his first goal for the club from 25 yards after 52 minutes.

Daggers upped the tempo for the remainder of the half, but could not find a way through as Benson was put clean through only to drag his shot wide of the post, while Green went close too before Montgomery had the final say.
