Colin Daniel and Tyrone Barnett netted as Macclesfield beat Wycombe 2-1 to claim their first win of the season.

Daniel drilled a fierce low shot past keeper Nikki Bull from 35 yards to open the scoring in the 11th minute of Saturday's League Two clash at Adams Park after his initial free-kick had rebounded back off the wall.

Barnett doubled the Silkmen's advantage three minutes later when he exquisitely curled the ball into the top corner from 22 yards.

Scott Rendell and Dave Winfield then had efforts saved by keeper Jose Veiga as the shell-shocked hosts tried to respond.

But they were fortunate not to fall further behind when Hamza Bencherif's dipping 25-yard shot hit the crossbar two minutes before the break.

Wycombe improved in the second half and Rendell was denied one-on-one by Veiga before the striker pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 65th minute, after Kevin Betsy had been tripped in the box by Paul Morgan.

Gareth Ainsworth fired two shots narrowly off target as the Chairboys pressed for a late equaliser, while Bull denied Daniel at the death.
