Smith at the double for Swindon

admin

Swindon began strongly and were unlucky not to go ahead after only four minutes when Yaser Kasim struck the crossbar with a free kick.

They made the breakthrough in the 13th, when Louis Thompson surged across the penalty area and teed up Smith, who lashed the ball beyond Mark Howard and into the bottom-left corner.

Smith doubled Swindon’s lead 10 minutes after half time from the penalty spot when Neil Collins tripped Massimo Luongo after a marauding run into the penalty area.

And three minutes later, Obika turned in Bradley Smith’s cross for his fourth goal in three games, before Mark McNulty bundled a Ben Davies delivery over the line in the 66th minute to spark a fightback from Nigel Clough’s side.

Davies converted Ryan Flynn’s cross for United’s second, before Andy Williams finished a one-on-one and Thompson struck from outside the area to secure an emphatic three points for Swindon.

Smith at the double for Swindon

admin

The home side were 2-0 up after just 13 minutes following goals from Massimo Luongo and then Smith. The Iron replied through Paddy Madden but Smith restored the two-goal cushion before the break. Scunthorpe’s day was made worse when Marcus Williams was sent off late on.

Swindon raced into the lead when Luongo guided home Nathan Byrne’s cut-back to give the Socceroo his first goal since the end of November.

Smith scored following good work from Louis Thompson, who set up the striker to smash home unchallenged from six yards out.

Madden pulled a goal back in the 20th minute when he raced behind the Robins defence to slot home Deon Burton’s flick on.

Smith, rather fortuitously, got his second goal deep into first-half injury time after Ben Gladwin’s cross rattled off the post and in off the forward from close range.

Williams and Thompson were involved in an altercation 10 minutes from time when the Iron full-back pushed his opponent in the neck – he was shown a straight red card for violent conduct.
