Scunthorpe topple Coventry

Goals from Paddy Madden and Lyle Taylor earned the Iron only their second win of the season after centre-back Reda Johnson had been sent off for the visitors in the 24th minute.

Scunthorpe got off to the worst possible start when Coventry striker Frank Nouble, on loan from Ipswich, burst into the box through a pedestrian home defence to lash a shot past goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik.

But seven minutes later Johnson saw red for the visitors after appearing to aim a headbutt at striker Taylor.

That gave Scunthorpe a boost and they were back on level terms in the 38th minute when leading marksman Madden netted his fourth of the season with an excellent finish from a low left-wing cross from acting captain Gary McSheffrey.

Coventry immediately sacrificed striker Simeon Jackson to bring on defender Seb Hines to try and hang on for a point.

Scunthorpe brought on substitute Hakeeb Adelukan early in the second half and he quickly forced a good save from Ryan Allsop.

The home side got the winner in the 63rd minute when Taylor thundered a header into the roof of the net for his first goal for the club.
