Llera lifts Scunthorpe

It was the Iron’s first home win in seven games and lifted them out of the bottom four for the first time this season.

They got off to an encouraging start with a goal after just 10 minutes. Striker Luke Williams, on loan from Middlesbrough, applied the finishing touch after Paddy Madden had won possession on the right touch line to create the chance.

Madden himself then went close with a snap-shot, but Scunthorpe then lost their early momentum.

In a poor first half it was no real surprise when Crewe equalised on the half hour. Former Iron loanee Nicky Ajose applied the finishing touch from close range to a cross driven in low from the right by James Baillie.

It was Ajose again who came close to giving Crewe the lead in the 55th minute when his excellent free-kick from 25 yards came back off the woodwork.

With Uche Ikpeazu proving a real handful up front, the visitors chased a winning goal. But it was Scunthorpe who got it in the 77th minute when defender Llera applied the finishing touch from close range after midfielder Liam O’Neil had produced a surging run into the box to get in a shot.
