Dagenham see off Morecambe

The Daggers took full advantage of some shocking Shrimps’ defending to move further away from the bottom of the table.

The visitors went ahead after just 17 seconds. A ball was played to the right side of the Morecambe box, which Laurence Wilson failed to clear, and Luke Howell was well-placed to drill a low shot into the bottom corner of Andreas Arestidou’s goal.

Morecambe hit back with Kevin Ellison’s deflected shot flying narrowly off target while Daggers goalkeeper Mark Cousins saved well from Paul Mullin’s header.

Dagenham’s resistance was broken in the 24th minute when Andy Fleming scored from close range after Shaun Beeley’s shot was diverted into his path by a defensive block.

The second half started in much the same way as the first with Morecambe gifting Wayne Burnett’s side an early goal.

A harmless free-kick was pumped into the Morecambe area in the 48th minute, but Arestidou got in a mix-up with his defenders and Aye Obileye was on hand to score unchallenged from close range.

Four minutes later it was 3-1 when veteran striker Jamie Cureton slotted home a low cross from Ashley Hemmings.

Morecambe went close to pulling one back but Alan Goodall’s header from Andrew Fleming’s corner was cleared off the goalline by Joe Widdowson before home substitute Jack Redshaw scored a superb individual consolation goal deep into stoppage time.
