Marquis keeps Rovers in check

Harry Forrester spectacularly fired the visitors ahead six minutes after coming on as a 34th-minute substitute, albeit with the help of the strong wind that affected the game.

The former Brentford forward struck a 40-yard free kick, which looped over Gillingham goalkeeper Stuart Nelson’s head.

On-loan Millwall forward Marquis levelled the game a minute before the break as he latched on to Doug Loft’s free-kick that hung in the wind to head past Doncaster goalkeeper Stephen Bywater.

Bywater produced a brilliant save to deny Marquis from close range after 52 minutes and Gills midfielder Bradley Dack’s lob was cleared off the goalline by Andy Butler. The home side have now only lost one in six games under new manager Justin Edinburgh.

Doncaster had first-half chances when Butler headed wide from Richie Wellens’ free-kick and Nathan Tyson blasted a snap-shot over the crossbar.

Forrester had the visitors’ best chance to score a winner in the 77th minute, but his half-volley was pushed wide by Nelson after he had charged through the Gillingham defence.
