David Moyes pushing boat out as West Ham look to Everton man to fill problem position

West Ham are reportedly targeting a move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin – though the Toffees’ valuation remains a sticking point for the Hammers.

The Hammers are in the mix to finish in the Champions League places this season and currently sit in fifth in the Premier League table. However, back-to-back losses to Leeds and Manchester United have not helped their cause, with the Red Devils’ win seeing them leapfrog West Ham.

In order to further their chances, David Moyes wants to boost their options up front and is looking to bring in another striker. Michail Antonio remains their only senior striker in their squad.

As such, The Sun reports that Moyes is looking to raid Everton to bring in Calvert-Lewin. The Toffees value the striker at £60m – a fee which is currently too high for West Ham.

However, if there is any indication that Everton will drop their asking price, then West Ham will be ‘right at the front of the queue’ for his signing.

Calvert-Lewin has missed large periods this season through injury. And the hope for West Ham is that Everton opt to cash in to raise some transfer funds of their own.

The England striker has also been linked with a move to Arsenal, but their focus is very much on Dusan Vlahovic. Having submitted an offer of £58m, plus Lucas Torreira, the Gunners are waiting to see if that deal proves successful.

However, reports on Sunday have revealed two further complications facing Arsenal.

Moyes’ year-long striker hunt to end

And with West Ham seemingly his clear suitors, reports are indicating a move could still go through this month.

Moyes has also addressed West Ham’s year-long chase to sign a new striker.

“I think in a perfect world that is what we would try and do,” he said. “We have been trying for a couple of years to add a striker to the group but we have not been able to.

Arsenal are said to be eying up a move for Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

“We have had quite a few offers for players at different times that have not been accepted or we could not get or [they] have been too expensive. So it is not for the want of trying and not like we are not seeing the same things that others are seeing.

“It is trying to get in players that I think can help us and make a difference but we will continue trying to look. With a week or so to go [in the transfer window] we will keep looking.”

Lee Dixon wants Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Arsenal

Gunners legend Lee Dixon, meanwhile, thinks Calvert-Lewin would be a good fit for his former club.
“Would I like to see Calvert-Lewin at Arsenal? I think yes. I think you’d struggle to get one of the top, top strikers like [Erling] Haaland,” Dixon told MailOnline.

“It would be a step up for Calvert-Lewin, no disrespect to Everton.

“I like him, I think he’s got potential to be as good as he wants to be. He is fit and athletic, he is strong and good in the air and a good finisher. I would take him.”
