Boss Jim Bentley was delighted after Morecambe ended their eight-game winless run with a hard-earned 1-0 victory at Crewe.
Kevin Ellison struck against the run of play in Monday's League Two clash at Gresty Road to put the Shrimps ahead before he and Lewis Alessandra spurned chances to add to it by hitting the crossbar.
It mattered little, though, as Morecambe claimed the points, with Bentley saying: "It's a great start the new year to get three points and get back to winning ways.
"It's not so much a feeling of relief, it's just nice to get a win we deserved as we have not had the rub of the green for a long time.
"The win has been a long time coming but we knew if we stuck together and kept believing in ourselves it would come.
"The lads were brilliant and in the end we could have two or three and to get the clean sheet as well is brilliant."
