I don’t think you necessarily need to ‘spend’ £200m. But you almost certainly need £200m ‘worth’ of talent on the pitch as often as possible. For example, I’d rate Payet as a £25-30m player, yet the Hammers paid about £11m for him. So the quality is out there and you don’t necessarily need to pay big bucks for it. I was hoping that Firmino would be of similar calibre to Payet but the truth is he’s nowhere near.
If we do give Klopp £200m to spend, I can only hope against hope that he spends it more wisely than our last few managers…Peace

Alan Hansen with a sensationalist statement yet again.

We challenged for, and came very close to the title only 2 seasons ago without spending exteremely huge amounts. The main issue is spending wisely, not just spending big, although you may need to spend big on one or two special players, but definitely not on all/most of them.

Grujic and Matip for a combined toal of 5m is not a bad start by Klopp

Davinci – On another thread you say we need till the end of the season to judge Firmino, and now in this one you are judging him now, try being consistent.

Davinci, you say Firmino is nowhere near as good as Payet, but I would say there is not much separating the two players. Bear in mind they have different skillsets, with Payet excelling in dribbling and close control, while Firmino is excellent at pressing, assists and movement.

So far this season, Firmino has 6 goals and 8 assists, while Payet has 9 goals and 5 assists, so they each have 14 contributions in total.

Now of course you cannot judge players on stats alone, but I would say Firmino, after a slow start, has had almost as big an impact at Liverpool as Payet has had at West Ham

There’s no exact science as historically seen in Chelsea and Fernando Torres, but what people should take from this assertion is that when is that for Lfc to be prepared to take that risk in the first place if the opportunities are there in the market.

Equally, a 12 million pound player can turn out just as good.

Nest season even the bottom club get 99 million pounds from EPL. And as we have seen this season things are starting to level up with regard to stockpiling on players. End of the day its 11 vs 11 and if you have at least 99 million to spend on players and you spend wisely as West ham, Leicester, Southampton, Watford ect have this season then anything is possible even against the so called big boys. I think the era of coaching and scouting is upon us now and those teams with best man man managers, coaches and scouts will have the best chances of succeeding. Even with all the money look at the debate going on at Man Utd bout how their youth structure is in a mess which some argue has contributed to their current plight. Same here at Liverpool we talk about how the scouting and transfer committee have failed. Contrast that with ‘lesser teams’ such as Southampton and Leicester who have been praised on their scouting and coaching and staff abilities. Obviously many parts make the engine and 200 million could help but there’s no guarantee of success especially if its misspent.
