Search begins for successor as two-time boss is relieved of duties
Romania have sacked manager Victor Piturca in a bid to reinvigorate slim hopes of reaching the 2010 World Cup.
The 1994 quarter-finalists are flailing in fifth place in qualifying Group Seven after losing 1-0 to Austria at the start of April.
And Romania's Football League has therefore decided to act in an attempt to improve on a haul of four points from five matches played.
Dumitru Dragomir, head of the Romanian Football League, has stated that a replacement for Piturca has yet to be identified.
"Piturca has been relieved of his post," said Dragomir. "We haven't decided on his replacement. That decision will be made later on."
Former Romania international Piturca began his second spell in charge of the national team in 2004 after initially managing the side between 1998 and 1999.
