Russia safely booked their place at next year's Euro 2012 finals with a resounding victory over Andorra at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
Dick Advocaat's troops came into the match two points clear of nearest challengers the Republic of Ireland and knowing victory against their unfancied opponents would book their ticket to Poland and Ukraine as Group B winners.
The three points were never in doubt from the moment Alan Dzagoev fired the hosts ahead on five minutes.
A second for Dzagoev and strikes by Sergei Ignashevich and Roman Pavlyuchenko had Russia out of sight at the break, while second-half efforts by Dennis Glushakov and substitute Diniyar Bilyaletdinov added gloss to the scoreline.
The result means Russia top the group on 23 points after seven wins, two draws and one defeat from their 10 qualifiers, while Andorra finish the campaign nursing an unwanted record of ten straight defeats.
Ireland win
Republic of Ireland qualified for the play-offs after a 2-1 win over Armenia in Dublin in a clash which saw both teams finish with 10 men.
Armenia needed to win to leapfrog Giovanni Trapattoni's men into the play-off berth but their task became much harder when keeper Roman Berezovsky was sent off on 26 minutes after being adjudged to have handled Simon Cox's shot outside of the box.
Valeri Aleksanian then scored an own goal three minutes before the break and Richard Dunne put the hosts further in front just before the hour.
While Henrikh Mkhitaryan pulled one back for the visitors and Ireland were reduced to 10 men when Kevin Doyle was sent off for a second bookable offence on 80 minutes, Trapattoni's side held on to secure their place in Thursday's draw for the November play-offs.
Macedonia draw
Meanwhile, Macedonia and Slovakia rounded off their Euro 2012 qualifying campaigns with an uneventful draw in Skopje.
Both teams headed into the encounter knowing they had no chance of qualifying or even improving on their positions in Group B - Slovakia fourth and Macedonia fifth.
Juraj Piroska opened the scoring for the visitors in the 54th minute but Nikolce Noveski equalised 11 minutes from time to ensure the spoils were shared.Click below for individual match stats:
