Swiss manager wants three points from crucial contest

Switzerland manager Ottmar Hitzfeld believes it is imperative that his side beat Wales on Tuesday.

The Swiss have made a disappointing start to Euro 2012 qualifying, losing their opening two games.

Their latest setback came against Montenegro on Friday, as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat.

Hitzfeld knows that his side cannot afford any more slip-ups if they are to progress from Group G, making it all the more important that they take three points from a home date with Wales in midweek.

"We must not lose our nerve," said the German coach.

"We desperately need a win so that we can release the tension and we have got to beat Wales on Tuesday to start our recovery."

Sensation

Switzerland currently sit bottom of the group, following defeats to England and Montenegro, but Hitzfeld is confident that it is still all to play for on the road to Poland and the Ukraine.

"Nobody would have expected Montenegro to have picked up nine points from their first three games," he said.

"That is a mini sensation, but they have beaten Wales and Switzerland in home games."LIVE ON SKY SPORTS
