Manchester City recovered from a goal down to finally end their run of Premier League draws by beating table-toppers Chelsea 2-1 at Eastlands.
Emmanuel Adebayor scored at both ends in the first-half before Carlos Tevez netted a free-kick just after the break.
Frank Lampard then had his late penalty saved by Shay Given as the Irish stopper earned City a precious victory, extending their unbeaten run of games in the Premier League to nine while inflicting upon Chelsea their third defeat of the season.
Given had already beaten away Didier Drogba's side-footed effort when Adebayor put through his own net with eight minutes on the clock.
Given was in the right place at the right time to keep out Branislav Ivanovic and Nicolas Anelka in quick succession, but after the City stopper's second block, the ball bounced off the back of Adebayor and across the line to hand the visitors the lead.
Going behind sparked City into life, with Mark Hughes' side enjoying much of the possession. Petr Cech had to beat away Shaun Wright-Phillips angled drive before the Chelsea stopper was rescued by Ricardo Carvalho in the 35th minute, with the defender nodding Micah Richards' header off the line with his keeper in no man's land.
City had to wait only another two minutes to be level, but the visitors were left fuming after referee Howard Webb missed an apparent handball in the build-up to the equaliser.
Tevez's corner was punched by Cech only as far as the edge of the box, from where Wright-Phillips unleashed a half-volley towards goal. Richards inadvertently got in the way however, with the ball striking the City defender's arm before falling into the path of Adebayor, who made up for his earlier own-goal by tapping home the leveller.
Adebayor saw his effort cleared off the line by Ivanovic following Wright-Phillips' superb run seven minutes after the break as City began the second period strongly, and their ascendency was rewarded in the 56th minute.
Carvalho gave away a free-kick in a central position, 25 yards from goal with Tevez curling a low effort down the side of the Chelsea wall. Cech should have fielded the effort comfortably but the Czech stopper wrongly anticipated an attempt over the wall and stepped to the right as Tevez's shot slipped past him to his left.
Chelsea were gifted a wonderful opportunity to level things up in the 83rd minute when substitute Nedum Onuoha brought down Drogba in the box. Lampard stepped up to take the penalty but Given dived to his right to superbly beat away the England midfielder's spot-kick.
Drogba missed the target when Michael Essien put him through on goal three minutes from time as City held on for the victory that sees them climb to sixth in the table, while the visitors lead at the summit of the Premier League is down to two points after Manchester United's win at West Ham earlier in the day.
