Luton boss Gary Brabin has admitted he never intended to allow Godfrey Poku to return to Southport on loan for the second half of the season.

The midfielder joined the Sandgrounders on loan in August and produced a number of eye-catching performance under the guidance of manager Liam Watson.

The Southport boss made his intentions clear in the January transfer window when he said he would love to bring the 21-year-old back to Haig Avenue.

However, the any chance of a return to their Blue Square Bet Premier rivals was blocked by Brabin, who is keen to see Poku in action for the Hatters.

Brabin told Bedfordshire on Sunday: "The plan was always that he would come back [from Southport].

"He's our player, we just needed him to go out and get some experience.

"Southport have been delighted with the way Godfrey has performed. We've helped them out with his service and, obviously, they're going to fight tooth and nail to try and get him back because he's done well for them.

"He's shown he's capable of playing week in week, week out in this league and he's got show he's capable of performing like that for us as well."
