Gateshead chairman Graham Wood says Luton's pursuit of Jon Shaw was never seriously considered by the club.
Gateshead chairman Graham Wood says Luton's pursuit of Jon Shaw was never seriously considered by the club.
Hatters boss Gary Brabin made a number of bids to sign the 28-year-old but Wood is adamant the striker was not for sale.
Shaw had netted 23 goals at the time of the pursuit and has continued to put them away for the eighth-placed Blue Square Bet Premier club.
Wood told Luton Today: "Shaw was not for sale. He has scored 29 goals this season and if you want to get back into the Football League you do not sell your top scorer to one of your rivals."
Town, meanwhile, have turned down an offer from Southport for Godfrey Poku after he completed a three-month loan deal with the Sandgrounders.
Boss Liam Watson said: "That's five new faces at the club, and it could have been more, had our financial offer for Godfrey Poku been accepted by Luton Town."
