Angel Rangel believes Michu is good enough for a top four side and may need to be handed a new contract to keep him at Swansea.
Michu has been in wonderful form since arriving from Rayo Vallecano in the summer, scoring 10 times.
And despite only joining this season, Rangel feels they need to consider tying the 26-year-old to a new deal.
"I think he could play for a top-four team, it's probably a bit crazy of me to say it but I think he has proved himself in the first 15 games of the season," said Rangel in the South Wales Evening Post.
"Scoring 10 goals in 15 league games is not easy, so let's hope we can keep hold of him.
"He is really happy here and maybe the club will have to give him a new contract, but that's not for me to say.
"He is surrounded by nice people. There are lots of Spaniards here who he gets on very well with and he loves it at Swansea."
Rangel believes that, while playing well himself, Michu has also improved the overall effectiveness of the team.
"You can't really say any more about Michu. The most important thing is that he is scoring goals and enjoying himself," Rangel added.
"It's not only goals, the way he plays is excellent and he links up with the other players on the pitch.
"He is a reference point for us and he scores, but we also have the more direct ball to him that we probably have not had before.
"He is bringing a lot of things to the team. I don't think he has a roof now, he is doing so well I think he can get better and score so many this season.
"But you cannot just single out one player because the whole team are doing well."
