A Manchester United official has apologised following complaints that a logo used on club promotional material resembled a swastika.

Supporters used social networking site Twitter to highlight the resemblance of the image to that adopted by the Nazi party.

The logo was used on a mail about the club's up-and-coming young players entitled 'New Order'.

The club's head of media, David Sternberg, responded: "The creative is completely inappropriate; we apologise unreservedly and are taking appropriate internal action."
