Augsburg have appointed Germany's 1990 World Cup winner Stefan Reuter as their new director of sport days after parting company with Jurgen Rollmann.
Reuter, who has filled similar roles with Borussia Dortmund and 1860 Munich since ending his playing career, has signed a contract until 2015 with the Bundesliga strugglers, who will end the year bottom of the table.
"We are delighted to have been able to gain a real expert in Stefan Reuter," said the club's president Walther Seinsch.
"He agreed to join Augsburg in an instant because he recognises the potential this club has."
Augsburg are preparing for all eventualities, though, as Reuter's contract is valid in both the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga.
They ended the first half of the season 10 points adrift of safety, and three behind a relegation play-off berth, but Reuter believes the club have a lot to offer.
"I am really looking forward to my new job with Augsburg because I am convinced we can reach the goals we have set ourselves," he said on the club's website.
"I was in the stadium frequently recently. The fans, the stadium, the team and the club management provide perfect conditions for establishing Augsburg as a stable Bundesliga side."
